Serving the King

Updated: Feb 24, 2021

When we talk about living for 'the kingdom,' or working to fund 'the kingdom,' or having a 'kingdom' mindset, or 'kingdom' 'marketplace' ministries, what exactly are we talking about? I am going to suggest that there has been an abuse of this language, in our day, as eyes shift from truth, to various passions and pleasures, in these last days. Maybe it's not happening with you, maybe it's elsewhere, regardless, there is a battle going on between kingdoms on this earth - the kingdom of men, the domain of darkness - and we should all take time to remember what Jesus said: "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Jesus said:

"The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field." Matthew 13:44

The Kingdom of Heaven is worth more than anything that we have and everything we have put together: and we would gladly give away everything - if that was the cost - in order to have the kingdom of heaven.

'Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand' - Jesus - the king of Kings and the Lord of Lords, has proclaimed. This announcement echos through all of the King's people. Take a moment, and remember if there is a kingdom, there is a living King: we serve a living God. Our King came to rescue those who would receive Him: those who believe in Jesus Christ, as the atoning sacrifice for their sins, for His blood was shed for us as a propitiation, for the wage of sin that we had earned, which was death. Yes, we who believe in Jesus, were a people who were lost, but our King came into this dark world, to rescue His people by paying the debt we owed because of our sin - with His own blood - and by the power of God was raised from the dead. Jesus - who is God, the only begotten of the Father - fulfilled the perfect Law of God, which condemned the world, because all have fallen short of the glory of God. Isn't it awesome, that the Word of God - this perfect Law from God, which is beyond and higher than the ways of man - was given to Moses on stone tablets, and that the same Word was made flesh through the only begotten Son of God, and that same Word returned to the Father after accomplishing the purpose to which it was sent into this world, and that same Word is sent to those that would believe in what the Word proclaimed, and that same Word is written - not on tablets of stone - but on the tablets of the hearts of the King's people, by the power of the Spirit of God, which testifies to the glory of the Son? We have been set free from the sting of death, which is sin: because of what Jesus did on that cross, which was to die for the sins of those who would receive Him. Death has lost its sting, because sin has lost its ability to condemn those who are in Christ, because our King declares: "Not guilty," for those whom have received Him.

Christians: the message of the kingdom of heaven, is one of urgency and eternality. Everything in this world is passing. All the treasures of this world, all the governments of this world, all the businesses of this world will amount to nothing. Jesus will return, to purge the earth of evil, where the kingdom of God will be manifested in a physical form: Every tear will be wiped away. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things will have passed away. There is a coming reckoning, and our king loves His people, and will fight on their behalf. Our job, is to fight the good fight of the faith, until then, and to take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. Stand for the truth, even in those small moments. Be clear about the Gospel truth. Our King has equipped us with Power from on high: the Holy Spirit. He is our comforter our advocate, guiding us into all truth. We are like beacons of light and God sends us to those groping through the darkness. Some will hate the light, others will see the light and cling to it - these are God's people - and we help encourage them with the word that our King has given us, to help lead them back to the Kingdom, where they will be equipped, empowered, and lead to go out and proclaim the same Gospel light and life of Jesus Christ that rescued them from outer darkness and a sure death.

The message that the Lord put on my heart was to remind us, those who believe in Jesus Christ and have received him: God saved us from this dark world. we wandered, we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

I tend to write a hymn-inspired poem after my daily Bible reading. In general, I will pray before I read, then read the text ( usually two to four times) and conclude with deliberate meditation on it.
